HARBOR Academy is West 40's Regional Safe Schools Alternative High School Program. In existence since 2000, the school has the capacity to serve 50 students, and serves all high school districts in the West 40 region.
Students are referred to the school by their home districts for many reasons, including expulsion, multiple suspensions, or a general inability to cope with and succeed in a large school setting. Our school offers a second, and sometimes the last chance for school success to students who are otherwise likely to drop out. Credits earned are transferred to the home school and count toward graduation. As important as credits, however, is the student's progress toward greater social and emotional maturity. A full time social worker and a caring staff of highly qualified teachers work intensively with students, both individually and in groups, to help them identify and weigh the choices they make. There are high expectations for growth toward academic and behavioral responsibly, moving students toward positions of leadership in the school. After attending HARBOR for one full semester or more, students may return to their home schools ready to succeed in the larger environment with new self-awareness and confidence.
