Meet Suzy Dees:
With a track record of transforming schools and districts across the state of Illinois, Suzy Dees is a proven leader in K-12 education. She is skilled in Professional Learning and Development, School Improvement, Team Motivation, and Instructional Coaching. Before joining West40 as the Director of Professional Learning, Suzy served in a variety of roles in schools, districts and on the state level.
She has guided universal professional learning opportunities at the Illinois State Board of Education, served as an educational consultant both independently and for ROEs, taught high school students, and worked as Instructional Support Coordinator at District 87 in Bloomington. Some of Suzy’s favorite content areas in professional learning are Inclusion, Co-Teaching, Mentoring and Induction, and Instructional Strategies.
Meet Mike Czerniawski:
Drawing on experience at public schools and other educational organizations, Mike Czerniawski is one of Illinois’ premier school improvement specialists. He specializes in helping educators focus on the changes to leadership, instruction, professional learning communities, and climate and culture that propel student achievement.
He advises leaders on how to use new systems and practices to make implementation come alive and advance the work of the schools. After helping districts across the country for nearly 20 years, Mike is proud to say that nearly every school and district he’s worked with has made gains in student achievement and educator effectiveness.
Meet Brooke Wozniak:
How can districts implement best practices from other high-performing schools in Illinois? That’s the daily mission of Brooke Wozniak, West40’s Professional Learning Specialist. Brooke focuses on Mentoring/New Teacher Induction, Teacher Evaluation (Danielson Framework), Growth Mindset/Social Emotional Learning, English Language Arts, and Early Childhood programs as a KIDS certified trainer.
Brooke joined West40 after serving on the School Board of Lombard School District 44 for eight years—four as president—and working as a primary level classroom teacher, paraprofessional, and reading and math interventionist at Glen Ellyn School District 41.
Meet Cathy Berlinger-Gustafson:
Cathy Berlinger-Gustafson is a Professional Learning Consultant with West40. In her work with schools, districts, and state education agencies, Cathy designs and facilitates presentations, workshops and trainings. Her work includes school and organizational change, professional development processes and systems, and coaching, as well as other topics that support continuous improvement in education.
Prior to consulting, Cathy taught elementary, middle and high school students, was an elementary principal and curriculum director. She has worked in suburban schools, urban schools and in the Department of Defense schools overseas in Okinawa, Japan and Hahn, Germany.
