Area Superintendents Share Tips on Investing in Staff Retention

West40 asked area superintendents to share tips for creating a positive team culture that can contribute to staff retention. From increased social activities and celebrations to an on-site daycare, district leaders understand the importance of building workplaces where educators feel seen, heard, and appreciated.

For example, Superintendent Dr. Leah Gauthier of Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401 said that during the most recent school year, staff in each school building nominated a "Team of the Month" to be honored.

"We celebrated the team by sharing with them why they were nominated in our monthly staff newsletter and we celebrated the team at the monthly Board meeting. The team members received a certificate of recognition as well as a pin to put on their lanyards," Gauthier said.

Watch the video below to hear more staff retention tips from Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak of Leyden High School District 212 and Superintendent Dr. Martha Ryan-Toye of Riverside School District 96.
